Henderson Road Construction
By Rob Henry
If you’ve traveled down Henderson Road in King of Prussia lately you’ve probably noticed a lot of activity along the roadway. All of the activity is actually ~$3.2 Million dollars worth of improvement to King of Prussia.
Recently, Upper Merion Township selected Glasgow Inc., a property owner in King of Prussia, to make significant improvements to Henderson Road to support the recent addition of the new I-76 ramps that are now open. The construction project will widen Henderson Road to five lanes in some sections, with center turn lanes. The additional lanes will provide for improved movement along Henderson Road. In addition to the new capacity, Upper Merion Township is also adding turn lanes where appropriate to prevent vehicles attempting to turn from blocking the lanes.
The work area spans from Queens Drive to Saulin Boulevard. The construction will last through December 2012, weather dependent, and begin again in spring 2013. In addition to the road way improvements there are also some significant improvements along the roadway that we are very excited about:
- New sidewalks will be installed on one side of Henderson Road. The sidewalks will allow Pedestrians to walk safely along Henderson Road.
- New crosswalks will be installed at Church Road. , Hanson Access Road and Saulin Boulevard.
- KOP-BID is working with the project engineer, Boles Smyth, on where and what type of street trees and plantings could be installed. We would love to see street trees put in where appropriate.
- The project will also provide a trail head for the future Chester Valley Trail near Franklin Maps.
Thanks to Upper Merion Township leadership, the Upper Merion Transportation Authority and the property owners along Henderson Road who have been supportive of the project. This will be yet another fantastic amenity to King of Prussia when completed.
